PROPOSITION 209'S IMPACT ON TRIAL LAWYERS IN CALIFORNIA

California's trial lawyers have been and continue to be a strong force in fighting for social justice. Proposition 209 threatens equal opportunity and diversity programs that help guarantee equal access to those who are under-represented in our society. Proposition 209 guts equal opportunity affirmative action programs including outreach, counseling, tutoring and recruitment which provide access to minorities and women. Proposition 209 will also weaken current protections for women against discrimination by state and local governments. If it passes it will compromise protections in our current legal system and prejudice will once again be the standard by which people are judged.

The backers of this deceptive proposition known as the California "Civil Rights" Initiative have a comprehensive agenda that has included passing tort reform legislation. Return
